Ground Control to Major Jeb

This is a review I’ve been excited about writing for quite a long time now. Since I discovered Kerbal Space Program back in July 2011, shortly after the first public alpha became available, I’ve followed the development keenly. While the game still hasn’t officially been released, it’s popularity is growing by the day as the feature set expands. So, is this the sort of game that will soar in the clouds with other indie greats like Minecraft and Bastion, or is it doomed to explode on the launchpad. Read on to find out.

Veni Vidi Vita

The PS Vita was finally given the time it deserved at Gamescom earlier this week. The new attention from Sony includes a price cut for consoles and memory cards, a list of Triple-A titles and cross play with the PS4, meaning it’s finally good to be a Vita owner!

Alive Inside

Once in a while you experience a moment of serendipity while engaging in an activity. Something is so fresh, so novel, that you proclaim (in your head) “YES! This is why I play video games / read books / read comics!” It’s happened twice for me with comics (Watchmen and When the Wind Blows), it happened with Majora’s Mask and Arkham Asylum. Recently, it happened too with Bastion.

Scalpel… Suction… Hammer?!

The Steam Summer Sale has descended upon us once again, offering the usual massive discounts on triple-A titles and indie games that we all love. I managed to last until day 2 before I caved and bought Surgeon Simulator 2013 – an indie game created in just 48 hours for Global Game Jam 2013 and released by Bossa Studios.

It’s hard to define what genre the game fits into, but it doesn’t quite fit into ‘simulation’ despite the title. I would probably classify it as ‘educational’, as it has taught me one thing and one thing only… that I should never be allowed near an operating theatre.
